Cedar Point Top Rides

Cedar Point amusement park is located in Sandusky, Ohio. It was officially open in 1870. This amusement park sits on an island in Lake Erie with a beautiful beach on the East side of the island. When first driving to the island you see the beautiful roller coaster skyline. Cedar Point is the “Roller Coaster Capital of the World.” The reason it is the capital because of the sixteen award winning roller coasters at Cedar Point. I am going to highlight my top favorite roller coasters at Cedar Point.

Top Thrill Dragster
This roller coaster only lasts 17 seconds but it will take your breath away for longer. The scariest part of the ride is the waiting at the launch pad. You sit there for what seems like eternity before being launched. The set up as if you were in a real d
ragster car waiting to race. You have to act cool at the launch pad because there is a grandstand of people watching the screams come piling out of you.
Once that light this green you are shot 120 mph in less than 4 seconds. That is insanely fast in such a short period of time. Once you past the launch you are going straight up at a 90-degree angle to go over and a slow and painful top hump at 420 feet high. Finally, you spiral down face first at another 90-degree angle to finally bring yourself back to Earth. In my opinion, you don’t truly realize where you are at on the ride until you get to the very top of the ride. My opinion: very scary ride and not for the faint hearted.

Millennium Force
Millennium Force has been rated for years as the “Best Coaster in the World.” There are many reasons for why this roller coaster wins so many awards. With Millennium Force overlooking the park at 310 feet, riders will be given a big thrill. At its stop speed, this coaster can reach 93 mph!
The reason for the popularity of the ride is because of the speed, height, and length of the ride. Even though you’re traveling at 93mph, you really feel like you’re getting a nice long ride.  My opinion: this ride is absolutely amazing. It is well worth the wait. The good news is that when they have three carts going at once, the line goes very quick. This is defiantly a must ride.

Maverick
What a ride! This roller coaster is full of twists and turns and unexpected events. Even though this ride isn’t very tall, it is quick and spunky. Maverick has an over 90-degree first drop which is very rare to have for a roller coaster. After that it is loops and corkscrews galore. At about the halfway point, Maverick provides a surprise. You roll into a dark room then all of a sudden…..woosh! You are launched straight out and back into that crazy turns. My opinion: Maverick is my favorite ride at Cedar Point, hands down. The lines for this ride are typically two hours but it’s worth the wait. Definitely try this ride at night, and don’t tell your friends about the surprise launch.

Magnum XL-200
If Top Thrill Dragster isn’t your type of roller coaster, then this is one is a good one for you. This roller coaster is a bit calmer compared to the other hardcore coasters. If airtime on rides is your thing, then hop on this coaster. It is 200-feet of up and down hills from start to finish. With multiple hills, you will be traveling at 72mph while feeling like you are coming out of your seat. This ride lasts two minutes and that’s what makes it so great. My opinion: the first hill and length of the ride makes this a really fun coaster. The airtime is great and it is an easy hands-up type roller coaster.

Raptor
This roller coaster is basically Cedar Point’s version of Six Flag’s “Batman.” Raptor does flips and inversions while allowing your feet to dangle. Raptor is only 137 feet tall and only goes 57mph. In my opinion: this roller coaster isn’t worth the long line. It is nothing special and depending on where you sit, you can’t even see what’s going on in front of you. Also, this ride is a little rough. Your head is jerking and I get a headache after riding Raptor. So in conclusion, don’t ride Raptor unless there is a small line.

Gate Keeper
This is Cedar Point’s newest roller coaster and most unique in my opinion. Gate Keeper is a winged coaster that allows you to hang over the sides of the tracks and act as if you are flying. This coaster is a little slow but it is very unique. This type of coaster is very new and innovative so Cedar Point was one of the first amusement parks to jump on this type of steel coaster bandwagon. In addition, they simulate the train as if you are flying and going to hit things. Gate Keeper reaches a height of 170-feet and a top speed of 67mph. My opinion: a good starter out roller coaster to get your body ready for the more extreme roller coasters.

Final Thoughts
In conclusion, Cedar Point is my all-time favorite amusement park. There are many more roller coasters at Cedar Point such as Mean Streak, Blue Streak, Rouagarou, Wicked Twister, Gemini, Iron Dragon, Corkscrew, Cedar Creek Mine ride, and Valravn (coming spring 2016). With all these coasters, it is no wonder they are the “Roller Coaster Capital of the World.” My final review for Cedar Point as a whole is; VISIT IT!! Cedar Point is an absolutely great time and I promise you won’t be disappointed. If you aren’t even into roller coasters there is still plenty of family friendly rides and activities for everyone to do. Worst case scenario is that you can ride the train around the park all day. So pack your bags and head to Cedar Point in 2016!
